>>1404878As for the number of studs, opinions really vary and again what is right for you depends on what your conditions are like. I know folks who like a minimal number of studs so that if they need the studded tires in the morning, the commute back home isn't horrible if the roads are dry in the afternoon, as often happens where I live. But personally I ride tires with lots of studs (240 in my Contis) because I don't really care if my commute is slow, if anything it helps me remember to slow down and avoid overexertion, and more studs means you have many more points of engagement with the ice for better acceleration, braking, and less chance of falling because the bike slides out from under you.
