A couple of years ago I was regularly flipping bikes (I still have the craigslist listing pics saved on my computer). The theory for turning a profit on personal bikes isn't anything more complicated than 'buy low, sell high,' the challenging part is keeping costs down so that you don't lose all your profit on replacing consumables and broken bits, and figuring out which projects are worthwhile so that you get a decent return for your labor hours invested.
