>>1383393>square taper>you need bigger expensive meme toolsSquare taper BB owner here. Not sure what "big" tools you need?
Pic related is what I have, for a threaded BB shell. For this the only tool you need is the splined tool that fits into the splines you can see in the image (on the inside edge of the cup), which allows you to screw in the cup (one side has a cup - the side you see in the picture - but the other side is one whole cartridge unit, with threading to screw into the other side of the BB shell).
Another tool I guess you might want for square taper BBs is a crank extractor / remover. And importantly, for square taper BBs, the end of the crank extractor needs to be a bit smaller than it needs to be for ISIS / Hollowtech. Although I do have a "modern" crank extractor (for ISIS/Hollowtech) and if I remove the end tip, it leaves a smaller ring that might work on a square taper. But I've not tried it. And it doesn't leave you with a flat surface. This is why I just resorted to using a crank extractor designed for older square taper BBs, with the smaller diameter end.
Then the only other tools would be a socket wrench for screwing on the crank bolt, and ideally a torque wrench for installing the BB and crank bolts, but you don't necessarily need a torque wrench, although it will be harder finding the correct torque.
The only other tools for square taper BBs are the tools needed to remove old ones (pin wrench for the adjustable cup, hook wrench for lockring, thin spanner for the spanner flats on the fixed cup which I think should be 36mm wide). But if anon doesn't have an existing old square taper BB then these tools won't be needed.
None of the tools I've mentioned are "big".
