>>1161946>>1161946>WW2 and the Cold War fueled the quickest rate of technological development ever.FALSE. It was an over expensive dick measuring contest that wasted billions. The real innovation happened in computer science because of private investment in IBM and Bell Labs. The apollo program and the mega aviation projects of that time were super expensive and impractical. SpaceX is about to seriously BTFO out of NASA once and for all by establishing permanent bases on the moon and mars. And the internet, which yes was darpa funded, but networks were simultaneously being researched privately and that was the most paradigm shifting technology of the century. And when it comes to aviation.. the best tech has come from the commercial market which has made the most reliable and practical machines yet and the only thing hampering their innovation IS THE FUCKING REGULATORY FIASCO THAT AVIATION IS TODAY!
Look, you have a point. When there is worldwide conflict, governments have made strides and advancements BUT ONLY AT THE COST OF TYRANNY. Fucking world war 2 was fucking bullshit and America didn't even have to nuke Japan because a blockaded island is not threatening. The only justification for bombing japan really is just so that Russia would get their commie paws on them and ruin anime.
But yeah your point is that if governments are doing anything productive THEN HOLY FUCKING SHIT WATCH OUT BECAUSE THERE IS A WAR LOOMING. Somewhat true.. but also somewhat false because the only reason the 60's and the space race were glorified was because there was so much propaganda surrounding the projects of that time. IN reality they came up with NOTHING useful and they only visited the moon a few times and spent wayyyyy too much money and then decided after that to spend even more money on the abortion which became the shuttle orbiter. SpaceX has btfo out of Nasa for less than a tenth of the cost.
