>>1196755The U.S. has the most miles of rail and ships the most freight by rail then any other country on the planet, we just don’t transport many people via rail because we live in a dispersed society that in the post-WWII period was built around cars.
Outside of a few urban concrete hives like NYC, Chicago and LA, commuter rail would be a huge waste of money for the U.S. when we’ve already spent bazillions of dollars on a road and highway network and one can get a functional used-car for $300-$500.
We already have bus systems in the U.S. and they’re money losers everywhere, requiring all kinda tax dollars to keep them afloat as nobody wants to ride a bus, why would commuter rail be any different?
No, the most logical future path for the U.S. is electric cars using our existing road network.
