In the past I've used white lithium grease (gets dried out after a while), chain lube (Dumonde Tech Lite; also gets dried out after a while), wheel bearing grease (doesn't get dried out, but does cause quite a bit of drag), and most recently, gun oil (like Breakfree; this was today, rode 55 miles on it, seems okay so far, no telling if it'll last).

Nothing wrong with any other part of it. This just squeaks after so many miles.
