We’ve had some absolutely soulless shit going up for a while here in Melbourne Australia, with Australia 108 being the most recent example.
0 (zero) retail/cafe space at ground level, all taken up by parking and various pedestrian entrances. That’s been the trend for at lot of towers recently, just maximum space for apartments and nothing else. No social spaces, no fine dining, just a token 7/11 at ground level.
The most baffling thing is that it was built in Southbank, a former industrial area only just in the last 2 decades turned into residential. How the fuck is it supposed to become a ‘neighbourhood’ if there’s zero amenities, just apartments. People need places to buy shit and places to eat, It’s like a suburb on the vertical axis. Total dickwaving waste of concrete.
