Dumbass here with a new bike. I didn't like the stem (way too short) so I replaced it with this and lowered it a little bit. But the instructions have a dire warning that I will die if I do this because it will break the steerer. I apparently have to cut the steerer down to be at or below the top of the stem clamp? No one has ever mentioned that in all the shitposting about slammed stems, what am I missing? Other than really hard core racer types I never see the steerer cut down.
Also the preload bolt is weird, it's larger than the stem bolts, and the whole thing sits really weird. So obviously I haven't tightened it down because it looks wrong. Do I really need to cut this? I didn't on my other bike and I haven't died yet.
Also the stem had a shocking amount of play before I tightened the bolts down. The stem that came with the bike had an aluminum shim but not this deda which fits without a shim.
