Is anyone following the Fort Lawton development debate? I know there's some /Seattle/ in here.
For those unfamiliar with the situation:
>federal govt offering a decommissioned army base (34 acres) for free to the city if they use the land for affordable housing >seattle has a severe affordable housing shortage>army base abuts a large park and an expensive SFH neighborhood and is close to downtown (currently no frequent all day bus route though)>city proposes just 238 units on the property (see pic related)>neighborhood NIMBYs want the city to turn down free land and build a dog park or absorb the base into the adjacent gigantic park (534 acres) instead of building housingMore info:
