Now we get into the class of Work Bikes that are REALLY making the difference.....in weight
This beast of a Work Bike is said to come in at anywhere from the listed amount of 250lbs to the max amount listed at 400lbs
The question is can the owner even lift.....
http://www.trucktrike.com/Just kidding....they add some kind of wheels to the huge cargo box and it apparently is rolled onto the platform
But to be honest they were able to convince the UPS corp to allow them to try yet ANOTHER pilot program in their west coast appeals to try to "innovate" once again.
This is something that a lot of people want to do for work, but when they see that they have to pay Union dues they run for the hills to go back to composting as fast as they all cheered together for the movement that brought them to town.
Not to mention the person demonstrating it in the Pilot was able to maintain a 3-5mph pace in the streets, which were flat, and had no hills
When I asked the man how long his batteries lasted for the front wheel drive (?) vehicle with 3 e hubs he added, he told me that it would get about 6 hours of work out of it
When I asked him how he thought that a 10 hr work day would be on a Work Bike that was only able to handle a 6 hr work load, and at the pace he was traveling how he planned to keep up with the current state of UPS's massive network of deliveries he had nothing to offer as a "viable solution"
I love those words don't you?
Sustainable Transport....the only Sustainable thing that I see is his stain on the field of engineering that he has added to this Work Bike Industry.
Usually one has an idea and they source the people that can make it happen, but for some reason there is a continued push for anyone to create anything that they want and earn the "Sustainable" mark of excellence for their own websites to be used to market them to HUGE corps.
I have no idea what this desperation is all about...to be the first to actually keep up to their own claims?
