>>1283129there were 3 other passengers which is about standard for a ship that size, all those large cargo ships have extra rooms built in for crew specialists, navigation pilots or company higher-ups but they are rarely used so the personnel management companies that staff the ships rent the rooms out to make a little money on the side.
besides myself there was an author from Florida on a 1-month long Pacific loop cruise writing his memoirs and a retired couple from DC who were on the last leg of a 3-month long around-the-world-without-flying trip. you spend your meals with the other passengers in the officer's galley (mostly so they know you are still alive and didn't fall off the side) but the rest of the day is yours to do what you want. the officers are all older Polish and Ukrainian career sailors and younger Filipino deckhands doing all the grunt work. they dont really have a choice when it comes to having passengers on their ship but they appreciate having a new face to talk to every few months.
not sure if ill ever do it again, one of the more popular trips is 30 days from Hong Kong to London through the Suez Canal and id like to take one of the mail ships that spends a few weeks cruising between the really isolated islands in the South Pacific.
