I have an old road bike for getting around, with thin road bike tyres. There are some times where it might be useful to be able to go off-road, but probably 99% of the time the fastest route to where I'm going to is on roads, so I don't see the value in having tyres that might be suitable off-road, but which will make you much slower on-road.
