Useful & interesting links:
~National Rail Enquiries (
nationalrail.co.uk/) - enter where & when you're travelling, and it'll work out a route with a price + send you to the operator's website to buy a ticket.
~Trainline (
thetrainline.com/) - probably the best option for tourists wishing to buy train tickets. They accept foreign payment cards, and will store tickets in the phone app as QR codes (accepted everywhere these days).
~RTT (
realtimetrains.co.uk/) - uses live 'open data' to track just about any train in Britain. Ideal for finding out in advance which platform your train will be calling at.
~OpenRailwayMap (
openrailwaymap.org/) - dedicated to past & present railway infrastructure.
~The Man in Seat 61 (
seat61.com/) - one man's hobby, hands down the best rail travel resource out there.
