The worst part about my mtb was that it was setup for my height, so my leg fully extended was at the bottom of the pedal travel, so standing wasnt really doable. It was a trek marlin 7. The main reason for bmx is I could get a non rusty one for less than $10, less to go wrong on such a cheap bike, and still better than walking. I’d wear a backpack like I do on my motorbike
