Hello there bros, need your advice on training, ill try to keep it clear and to the point.
Picked up a bike 4 years ago after not riding for like 10 years (yep im in my 30's). Gradually start to get more serious at it. for the past year (and a bit more), ive been training constantly. one day i ride, the next i rest. 50km/30mi during the week, 100km/60mi on weekends (aprox). this usually has climbs as i live in a hilly place (next to mountains). This rides are at a 80rpm cadence and always at the max intensity i can handle depending on the ride. I never ride a bit relaxed. So i reachead a plateau. I dont have power or hrmonitor yet but i gonna get one, so i cant give you more exact info.
Anyways, i did read Friel's book at some point so i know my training is far fro the best and i understand some basic concepts.
So i joined this local cycling club. They are in the process of getting new people and doing a base to specific training with the new ones. Base right now. A couple of rides and i explain my situation to the coatch. I tell him im curious about my body needing a rest since i havent had one in a looong time. He sugested me doing just zone 2 endurance riding. "to make the heart bigger before making it stronger". 3 solo rides+1 grupal ride is the plan, all zone 2. We didnt speak for how long though, next time i see him.
1- What do you guys think? does this make sense? plan is to do Z2 and then gradually go into intervals and harder rides.
im kinda worried about training all the time in Z2 as it can be demotivating....going slow and also as i live in a city, having to deal with cars and stuff (that was one of the reasons to go fast). i know and understand the final goal... but just wories me a bit. i tend to get a rush (pumped or whatever), from this short 30mi rides at full speed.. blood pumpin you know. (i quited alcohol and stuff thanks to these kind of rides)
2- How could i deal with not getting demotivated? any tip?
