So, I finally convinced my partner to get a decent bike. Yesterday she ditched her old, beaten up granny style dutch bike, and today she got a very decent touring / hybrid bike. Alfine 8, disc brakes, a nice lightweight aluminum frame, and all that jazz.
To christen it, we went to Marken, a small town about 20 KM north from Amsterdam. The tour went very well, she can finally more or less keep up (i don't really go fast).
Once we got there, we had a beer and some snacks on a restaurant with a view to a marina, and then we headed home. We ended up getting back at 11:00 PM, but it was worth it.
