Even the distance a horseback rider can cover within a day without putting the animal in danger is comparable to what your average touring cyclist does depending on the conditions.
but then a bike doesn't get startled because of a hissing cat on the road, it doesn't take a shit and doesn't have to be fed.
I'd say a motorbike like pic related is a much more apt comparison. It has to be fed fuel and leaves it's stinky residue everywhere.
