Two problems happen at connections to side streets, alleys, driveways, etc. The first is the classic right hook--drivers making 'blind' right hand turns across the bike lane, unable to see the cyclist hidden behind a wall of SUVs.
The second is drivers pulling past the stop sign, to the edge of the parked cars, then coming to a stop, waiting to merge on to the road w/ the bike lane. To be clear, "pulling past the stop sign" means "ignoring the stop sign, and coming to a stop 20ft past the sign" because that's the convenient spot to check for oncoming traffic.
