Jahnplatz is an intersection of eight important streets just outside the historic city center. All light rail lines travel through a tunnel underneath, and all city bus lines meet here. There is also a lot of car traffic going through, which is a problem because exhaust fumes and particle statistics are way, way over the allowed maximum.
Currently, car lanes are being reduced from two lanes per direction down to one lane in each direction. Jahnplatz will be closed off to car traffic coming from Niederwall street (behind the large clock on the right side of pic related).
The lanes will be converted to "environment lanes", which means they will be shared by busses and bicycles. I don't quite know what to think of this. Busses and bikes in a single lane seems like a bad idea, because busses have large dead angles and bikes are small and move quickly. Also, I don't know what will happen to the existing bike paths on the pedestrian areas of the square.
But since all busses stop at this station, I hope that in practice, the busses will use the existing bus lane/parking bay on the right, while bikes will use the lane closer to the middle of the road relatively undisturbed.
