But regardless of the ball bearing quality, it's just another case of using a retaining compound to try and alleviate noise. I've had almost no customer complain about noise, but what I do get are customers' bikes that have play in the BB. Upon further inspection, the bearings are loose in the frame. Trek's fix? "Oh, y-yeah, some of the bearing bores are a little too big. Here's some oversized bearings that should fit tightly." Then half the time, those don't work either.
Long story short, people destroy their bearing bores because they don't maintain their bikes. I hate to say it, but I'd rather have a BB30 and deal with the noise than have a BB90 and deal with the fucking shell falling apart.
