It's got a 26t granny now and a 9spd 11-34 cassette.
I use it a bit for road riding because it's pretty nice to ride unloaded & I just ignore the granny except for walls and use it like a double.
The large gaps are fucking awful for road riding though.
You could do the same, stick a really small granny on your triple, and a wide cassette, and then just use it as a double + bailout, mostly ignoring the small ring. Or even mostly ignoring the small & large ring if you want.
