11spd doesn't work better. It just has more gear selection for road racing autists. But infact 2x8 has a much wider range than 1x11. Rim brakes too can be really quite good. and if you want to have a bike to go really fast on and do fitness/sporting riding then drop bars are essential.
the mach would be nice as a comfy bike for cruising and stuff on and as a beater. not saying it's bad or anything just depends on your use case. If you're a derpy person go for it for sure or if you like comfymode enjoying a city.
