Bends should be as gentle as possible and a constant radius, brake and gear cables should allow for near or full lock when taped in place (I use Nitto™ electrical tape.)
Ream and flare the ends of the inner sleeves on your outer cables before fitting caps etc so inners don't snag on them and be sure to allow for stretch and adjustment of barrels by having them loosened ALMOST all the way out.
A good trick with gear cables after changing them is to leave the bike in big and big rings overnnight to let them stretch a bit, then adjust and trim gears the next day.
-DON'T grease or oil your cables, if they're catchy, frayed, or stretched; replace them
