I'm looking at getting my first mountain bike. I'm currently looking at two different bikes on craigslist in the 800-900 USD price range.
The first one is an older square tube Turner DHR for 800$ (pic related). I don't know what sort of components it has but it looks like it's in fairly good condition for its age. I am worried about buying a full suspension bike that's 10+ years old though. But the guy doesn't know anything about it. For example, when I asked for a list of components he just sent me a bunch of pictures and he couldn't tell me the exact age of the bike.
The second bike is a stock 2015 BMC TE29 hardtail bike for 900$. I'm leaning towards this because
1. I already have a BMC TT bike and I'm super happy with it and
2. it's a lot newer and I'm sure there will be less maintenance due to it being a hardtail.
3. all of the trails close to me are pretty hilly and I don't think the downhill sections are big enough to require a full suspension bike.
The only downsides to the BMC is the guy who's selling it lives around 2.5 hours away from me.
I'm pretty sure that the BMC is the better deal but I wanted to get some other opinions before I go and drop a bunch of money.
