So a balance bewteen comfort and speed is the main focus, don't want to pay top dollar for them and wouldn't mind at least a little puncture protection but couldn't care less what they look like as long as they're black.

All are worth saving, if you have the time and inclination do a little research, if you are smart about it you could get all of them in tip top condition, keep the two you like best as great everyday bikes and sell the rest for considerably more than you spent fixing them all up and any cash you spend on tools. You'll also gain invaluable knowledge and experience that will help you maintain the two you keep.
