>>1381000My whole bike cost £100 ($123). The saddle is just like pic related, although on mine the black oval eventually came off after a lot of wear, then the gel inside came out too. Probably because I've ridden it with jeans for years because it's an old road bike I use for getting around. In any case, it's a comfy saddle. I bet a Brooks would be hard and uncomfortable. And they're fucking expensive. And it's clear that it's just some hipster bullshit. Surely there are other brands of leather saddle out there if someone really wants leather? And yet everyone goes for that single brand? Yeah, HIPSTER FASHION, that's why.
>>1381003So you think the only bike available for less than £5,000 is a Dutch bike with nonfunctional brakes? My bike cost £100 and I recently replaced the brake pads with brand new ones that cost £4 on eBay, and bought cable pinch bolts that were £3 for five (I only needed to replace one but it's good to have spares). So that's £7 to fix my brakes. And if someone needed new cables, Wiggle (big UK bike retailer) sells two new cables for £2, two new outers for £2, or a kit with both plus ferrules and o-rings (the ones you use to prevent frame damage) for £5. Doesn't add up to £5k, does it?
If you're someone who can actually make use of a £5k bike, i.e. you're a very keen cyclist who's been doing it for years and you're well-off enough that you can afford it, then sure go ahead. But very few people are in that category.
