If the sidewalk is busy with seats and people I will try to avoid it, but if I'm just avoiding a light or the road is fucked (4-6 lanes, high speed, high traffic) I will just go really slow and ride around everyone until I can get back.
But most of the time I ride on the road. Sidewalk is a judgement call here and there.
