I currently own a pretty old, but good, 90's alu road bike.
I'm eyeing this gravel bike that has a bit of everything I want to upgrade in my bike:
>better brakes
>bigger tyres
>wider range rear cassette
>compact chainring
>modern STI without shift cabled ahead of the handlebars
But the bike itself is a tad fatter than my current one (from 9 to 11kgs), and I feel a bit worried it won't be as much of a difference when riding. I live in a pretty hilly area and I do ride outside the road (less often than I'd like to, too narrow tyres) currently, my bike has a standard 39/53 chainring with 11-28 in the rear, this would change it to 50/34 and 11-36, which is what I'm mostly looking forward to. Selling the used bike will be a bitch too.
Is it a good idea to go for this gravel bike, or look for a used, lighter road bike and try to get a bigger cassette to fit in?
