This is not possible if you ride a recumbent. It has been scientifically established that chance-of-injury when riding a recumbent bicycle is much lower than with a bent-forward bicycle. On a recumbent, one's feet are facing forwards, and one's legs are braced for impact.
Flying over-the-handlebars is basically a non-event on a recumbent bicycle. The lower center of gravity, and the more prone seating position, ensures the best possible outcome when falling. Most injuries are light, and almost never to the head.
It is true there are downsides to the recumbent bicycle, just as it has its upsides. We can conclude however that their lack of popularity is not caused by the conceived downsides, rather it is caused by ignorance, and conspiracy from the bent-forward industry, who prefers to keep things as-they-are. Even though most of those old fools don't even cycle.
