>>1197055> You use trains to not get stuck in the rush hour,The vast majority of people have commute times of around a 1/2 hour.
And you’re ignoring the time, expense and hassle of going from home to the train station / train station to work and back again, as well as sitting around with your thumb up your ass waiting for the train.
Not to mention non-commuter stuff like getting groceries, making a doctors appointment, taking Jr. to soccer practice at 4:00pm while his sister has to be at dance class at 4:30, etc and so on.
> that alone gives them a huge edge over both buses and trains.See above, this is nowhere even remotly near enough to justify the huge expense of implementing commuter rail.
> Roads are far bigger money-sinks than railsAbsolute nonsense, name one commuter rail system in the U.S. (or anywhere, for that matter) that pays for itself. Exactly.
A “money sink” is a loss and that simply doesn’t apply to roads and highways, which are in constant use 24/7/365 and a good return on the investment. Meanwhile, every rail system needs massive tax payer subsidies just to keep it afloat.
And you’re ignoring the fact that we already have bazillions of miles of roads and highways and our entire society has been built around the use of cars.
