>>1967145>Because elevating it would be ugly and expensive so was never going to happen and putting it in a tunnel would be expensive so was never going to happen.well most of the metro network is elevated, i'm sure most locals are still glad to have it regardless. tunneling might be expensive, but they're now running double trams while dealing with a personnel shortage, it absolutely would've been the better option for an ever growing city like amsterdam. also they could just use the much cheaper cut and cover method since no houses would need to be demolished, just temporary road closures. sadly they just finished the roundabout things and as cool as they are putting whole thing underground and connecting it to the noord-zuid line would've been preferable.
