My stingy shithole took the BRTpill in the 80's and is now converting the busways into light rail as it should have been from the start.
The central segment of Line 1 (red) opened in 2019 as a light-metro service (electrified, 100% grade separated, 5min> freqs in peak) and the northern half of Line 2 (green) opened in 2001 as a commuter-style pilot project using DB-spec'd DMU's on an old freight ROW.
The eastern and western extensions of Line 1 (red) are set be completed in 2024 and 2025 respectively, while the southern extension of Line 2 and airport spur should be ready by the end of 2022. I'm taking these dates with a grain of salt as the opening of Line 1 was delayed 4 times over the course of over a year and continues to be plagued by equipment and signalling issues. Small wonder, our tightwad government assigned the contract to the lowest bidder.
Certain sections of Line 2 remain single-track which limits the frequency to 12mins all-day.
