Some important ongoing heavy rail development:
Shatin Central Link
>First phase oening next year and will offer rail connection to coastal part of Eastern Kowloon, second phase will provide an additional link across the harbor in the center of the city to alleviate congestion
>Despite named Shatin Central Link, if you really want to go from Shatin to Central you will only use about 10% length of this line
>Is a heavy rail project, but because of fire safety requirements of cross harbor section, the available capacity on existing lines that it connect to will be decreased (down from 12 train cars to 9 despite compensated by higher frequency)
>Almost completed the first phase but multiples frauds are found in the construction process that caused concern against safety and reconstruction might be needed.
North Island Line
>Parallel alleviation line for the existing Island Line
>Will enter into service as extension to cross harbor lines instead of a standalone line
>Construction to start in early 2020s?
East Kowloon Line:
>Recently announced plan
>Gradient of the line would be almost 100m in 2km distance unless utilize really deep tunnels as it is to serve hillside community
>Linear motor car?
Then there are some lines in the attached images that have also been planned.
Then there are some lines that are in planning stage but not yet appears on official proposal:

- New North-South corridor
>Parallel alleviation line to East Rail Line
- YLS/HSK ELS
>a light rail system that will connects new development area in the Northwestern area together. Probably will not be compatible with existing light rail system there
