People who play music or talk to others or do stuff on public transport are looking for connection. It's a futile, obnoxious or mentally ill way to go about it, but what they're doing is noble.
In an ideal society, we would not all keep to ourselves, on our phones, not talking, hurrying through public spaces into seclusion and frightened of other people. Music, conversation, dance, drugs, alcohol, and small business are all inherently good things.
Nigtrain behaviour is kind of like autistic people propositioning for love. It's doomed to failure and most people find it repellent, but at it's heart is a deeply human desire, one which we should all empathise with.
