I'm afraid I need some help. A few weeks ago I discovered that two teeth on my largest chainring were bent. I took some pliers and tried getting them back in line but ever since my chain has been rubbing and skipping and when I am in the hardest gear it just jumps off the chainring.
So I decided to change the chainring. Got a new one and put that on and it didn't help at all. Hours of fiddling with the derailleurs followed until I got it to a point where it was okay in any gear on the large chainring.
Now when I shift down in the front I can see the chain rubbing every turn of the crank and it looks like it is stuck inbetween the two chainrings. Of course that is not good and it leads to the chain coming off. So I took a closer look at the crank and I noticed a distinct wobble. I took the large chainring off again and then made sure to bolt it back on in a star pattern with the same torque for every bolt. That sort of helped but there is still a bit of wobble.
I assume that either the chainring is no good or something is wrong with the crank or the bottom bracket is fucked? Secondly, what would it take to convert a 2x Shimano Tiagra to a 1x configuration. I am frankly done with dumbass front derailleurs. I thought about getting a 1X GRX group but they are ridiculously expensive. Can I just get a brake lever, a dedicated 1x chainring and call it a day?
