They're the closest thing ever in service to how a "standard human spacecraft" would often be depicted (SpaceX's Starship, if ever realized, would be a good example too). They're arguably the most recognizable space vehicle that entered service service and the one with the most "personality" if you will. There's something about a massive, building looking thing covered in a pattern of brick-sized tiles floating gracefully in space. Also, during their service years they made spaceflight into routine.
