Is there a better 26er tire for "gravel" riding than the Race King? Rolls extremely fast for MTB tire, weighs about 500g and the price is reasonable at 30-40€ per tire. Maxxis Ikon and Gravelking SK seem like contenders, but according to Bierman they both roll slower and weigh more than the Race Kings. Schwalbe used to do a lightweight Racing Ralph that was comparably fast, but those are not produced anymore.
I have no probs with slick tyres but if 55mm Race Kings roll faster than 25mm Gatorskins, why bother? I have tried meme tires like DTH and the wired Billy Bongers but they are both heavy and sticky feeling, though there is no rolling resistance tests available for them or Schwalbe Kojak. Speed Kings are interesting but seem to flat very often, and no tubeless support.
Is there something I am missing? Could the rene herse tires be worth it due to lack of competition in light, fast rolling slick 26er tires?
