Central Park is public-private, it's protected and maintained by an organization funded by a handful of oligarchs living on the streets immediately surrounding the park, people whose last names adorn the neighborhoods, streets, and other landmarks across the region. Keeping it the way it is maintains the essential character of the surrounding neighborhoods. Did you think it was a charity for the poor or something?
