One: My industry is very small. I know a guy who owns a small aviation business. He was a certified AME and a pilot as well, although he never flys. Hires his pilots for every season. At the time, my buddy was flying for him.
The plane he was working with, was a rattletrap, clapped out piece of shit. Since the guy was an AME with his own maintenance certificate, he would do the bare minimum and would pencil whip the logs to keep it in the Air.
My buddy refused to fly it one day after one of the cylinders was showing signs of failure.
He threw another kid into it, engine quit. Kid was killed.
Have many, many stories like this.
There are maintenance requirements for a reason.
