They are either 50.000 feet in the sky or departing from a highly sealed off airport, with your vantage point still well within driving distance. Trains on the other hand you can literally stand right next to, and are merely a few meters apart. Giving you the opportunity to properly appreciate them. Whether they're roaring/whining out of the station or speeding past you at 70+mph. There's a lot more variety as well. Literally the most average commuter plane is some Boeing variant. They all look the same.
