What is certain, nobody wants an abject failure that 1x was initially. People were scouring the world for a workable 1x solution at least for a half a decade before the 11speed XX1 was introduced. (I did so in 2011-ish, pic related - 11-38 cassette) and that was such a big hit that SRAM was unable to meet demand. People were gobbling up $300 cassettes like hot cakes and for a time entire market of hodge-podge conversions sprung up.
