>>1205555 (ebin quads)>They're going to fuck up the entire tram network just to try to force people onto the Noord/Zuid line because nobody actually wanted this thingThat's a meme. The new network is god tier because it's not just more centered around the new metro line, but also realizes a few ideas that have been talked about for decades:
>strong central east-west axisthe network really needs this and it was first proposed in the 60's, then forgotten about when the metro project was abandoned, again proposed in the 90's but boycotted by carfags who didn't want an 'iron ring' around the city that has priority over them. Now we're finally getting it
>less trams through the Leidsestraateveryone agreed that 40 trams per hour per direction on a single track section through a small pedestrian street full of stoned tourists had to stop. They were actually gonna let trams make a 10 minute detour just to skip that street. Now there will be a nice transfer to the metro and you'll be on centraal faster than you ued to
>bus route 15 conversion to tramThis has been talked about for 40(!!) years but procrastinated every time because bus drivers didn't wanna lose muh favourite line. The new network leaves some important streets tramless because it completely relies on tram 15 to go there. It pretty much blackmails the city into making this tram happen and indeed: suddenly there's money to build the missing track sections and the new trams have been ordered
>They just cease to be grade crossings because the Metro is removed; the trams will still use the same routeSame route, but the busier crossings are being replaced by pic related. A few others will remain but those are a problem only for the traffic that has to wait for the trams to pass
