Streetcar use peaked in 1920. By 1930, over 20% of cities with trolleys had converted to buses. Bus technology progressed to the point that buses had become much cheaper to operate than streetcars, and that cannot be ignored. For that reason, cities and operators were already converting their operating to buses years before NCL was formed in 1936.
