Also you can completely get by not knowing a word of Japanese but they do know when you don't learn and you have been there for a while and will give you shit for it. Also don't come at people speaking English, as I and many Japanese will tell you the complete opposite of what you want. If you make an effort no matter how awful broken Japanese you speak many will help you more than most people in other places.
Also pic related is what I take to get out to my cousin's place these DMUs are usually 1,2 car sets mid day and in mornings and evenings they can go up to 6 car sets they just couple together. Pretty neat.
