>>1495429If you're looking at steel or Ti, you should be able to find a good framebuilder near you. Then you work with them and a shop to get the bike specced out. Carbon is a bit more difficult at the 5k price point for a complete bike based on a frame made in the US, but Calfee's frames are really good and made in US, and start at $3k. Argonaut might be too pricey, but Alchemy's cheapest is around $6.5k for a complete with Ultegra. There's a handful of companies in Italy who make their own carbon frames, like Sarto, Passoni, and Cipo. I dunno where Festka is made. LOOK and TIME are still made in France. The TIME Alpe d'Huez 01 is on my short list for dream bikes once I reach a certain goal.
Good shops for high end road shit in North America include Above Category in San Francisco and Blacksmith Cycles in Montreal. There are a lot of really cool shops in Europe too.
