Lads, I destroyed one of my own handmade wheels (workshop accident), the rim is completely shot, nipple holes blown out. I am heartbroken, I had made these wheels in summer 2021 as a mechanical newbie. 3 options.
(1) Build a new set of wheels. I used Stans Crest mk3s last time (nothing special). But I've forgotten how I calculated spoke length, plus it's a ballache. Cheapest option.
(2) Buy Aliexpress metal rims. In reality won't cost much more then building my own wheels but I don't have the satisfaction of riding wheels I made myself. OTOH, I've done it once so why do I have anything to prove.
(3) Treat myself and buy Aliexpress carbon rims. My concern here is that a spoke replacement could be tricky, they'd need to send spares, also if I crack a rim somehow it's $700 down the drain.
