Last time went with one of those was like 7 years ago or something. Don't know if they're still doing it, but DB was (is?) using first class carriages from this era as second class IC carriages in their backup trains for heavy demand routes (e.g. Stuttgart-Frankfurt on Friday and Sunday afternoon with the weekend commuters).
I think I read somewhere that Locomore (now FlixTrain) also uses those. Unfortunately, they're not on my regular routes (lets see when I travel the next time anyways…) so I won't find out.
Oh, and pic related has those comfy, bouncy seats too. Now painted in ugly DB red, but there's still a few in service at peak times.
