NYC had something me crazy cool streetcars but people don’t think of it as a trolley town like Philly, SF, etc. The Brooklyn baseball team was originally the Trolley Dodgers because there were so many lines by the 1890s. Manhattan banned overhead wire so they used underground conduit power like London and DC. On light traffic lines that couldn’t justify the expensive conduit, they used storage battery cars, or horse cars until 1917.
