I want to know how this is ever supposed to work in america when your neighbor is 3 out of 4 times going to be a loud, obnoxious guy who smokes weed inside, makes noise at 4 in the morning, and steals your mail. These types of apartment complexes are never really that great, they might sound nice but unfortunately they always get destroyed by annoying tenants, section 8 and whatever other welfare programs bringing awful people to them, and just poor build quality, and of course no good businesses are going to come to an environment like that. These places also never have soundproofing, which is very important if the building has 30 tenants and they all live in 200 square feet apartments. Im sure it works in japan, but we need an actual practical solution for america, not just some nice sounding, "mixed use zone" or "walkable apartments and business area".
