>>1185709It's gonna be a proper interurban tram. The city explicitly calls it 'the first regional tram link' and stated that they wish to let the regional bus operator operate it in the future.
At Uithoorn the tram will provide interchange to the existing Zuidtangent BRT system (bus lane visible in artist impression from pic related), a network of ~100km of interurban bus lanes connecting Amsterdam, Amstelveen, Schiphol Airport, Uithoorn, Mijdrecht, Hoofddorp, Nieuw Vennep, Haarlem and IJmuiden that is planned to be turned into a lightrail network in the future. When finished all these lines together will be pretty much a reconstruction of the (in its time highly unsuccessful) regional rail network the Uithoorn station was once part of.
The Uithoorn line will open in 2022 while the conversion of the zuidtangent to rail is planned for 'some time in the future' so it will take a while.. but still pretty cool.
